Why the motion sensor?
The Advanced Cat Repeller incorporates a sophisticated PIR (Passive Infra Red) motion sensor which turns the device on when a warm body enters the controlled area. This has an important purpose other than saving battery life: researchers have found that cats can become desensitised to the noise if they realise that random sounds are not associated directly with their presence in the controlled area. With the motion sensor, the cat learns to associate the noise with its own movement, and is much less likely to stop being afraid of the noise.

What area does it cover?
It covers a 98 degree arc, to a distance of up to 40ft (12m), giving a total unobstructed working area of (120Square Metre's).

How quickly will it work?
If the cats have a habit of feeding and fouling in your garden, it can take 14-28 days to deliver the full deterrent effect. 'Occasional' visitors will usually be stopped within 7 days. If you have a dog, it may affect the dog if it's allowed in the same part of the garden. The sound doesn't travel well through walls and fences, so it won't affect a dog in the house, or a neighbour's dog. Will it affect birds?
Not at all - you'll be able to welcome the birds back to your garden.

Occasionally, children and some adults may be able to hear this device. If this happens it will usually only occur while children are in the garden and there's an on-off button that can be used if required.

Batteries:
Requires four D batteries or optional power supply (not included). Battery life depends on how many times the device is activated, but they typically last 3-4 months assuming 10 activations per day. Batteries aren't supplied as standard, but we can supply 4 x D Batteries: (see options above)

Ultrasonic cat repellers
Ultrasonic cat repellers are the most humane and environmentally friendly way to keep cats out of your garden; they emit a high frequency ultrasound which drives animals away but is inaudible to humans, and harmless to fish and birds.
• How do they work?
  Like many other animals, cats can hear noises at a higher frequency than humans. These sounds are called 'ultrasonics'. Ultrasonic cat repellers send out a very loud noise at a frequency that cats can hear but is too high for humans. This is annoying and can be frightening to the cats, causing them to move out of the protected area.

• How quickly do they work?
  In most cases, you'll see an immediate effect. We find that 90% of cat problems will be solved immediately or within 3 to 5 days. In rare cases, if cats have developed a long habit of fouling in your garden it may take up to 28 days for them to be dissuaded.

• Will it affect birds?
  Not at all - you'll be able to welcome the birds back to your garden.

• Where do I position the device?
  The ultrasonic noise spreads out from the device in a 100 degree arc (that's about a quarter of a circle). Depending on which device you buy you'll get a coverage of between 40ft (12 metres) and 100ft (30 metres)
• The noise doesn't pass through solid objects, so you need to consider the position of fences and dense shrubbery. Because of the high frequency of the sound it behaves more like light than ordinary sound waves. This means it travels mainly in straight lines and doesn't pass through walls, fences or shrubbery. Ideally, you're aiming to position the device so that there's a direct line-of-sight to the area where the cats usually foul.

• Will it affect my dog? Yes it will. Dogs hear at the same kind of frequencies as cats. However, you may be able to position the device pointing to an area of the garden where the dog doesn't need to visit. What about next door's dog? If you've got an ordinary opaque fence the ultrasound will stay largely in your own garden.
