The raised platform or 'Treadle' design of this, the original mouse trap has remained largely unchanged in the last hundred years or so due to its astonishingly simple and efficient mechanics delivering cheap and high catch rates.

Just stick a bit of bait on the prong, set the trap, and place on the floor preferably in a place where there is mouse activity.
A wide variety of baits may be used, from cheese to bread. Through Matt's experience, slightly more solid substances are better as they will be far more likely to trigger the trap when the mouse comes to steal the bait. We would recommend using the crustier bits of bread or small bits of cheese squeezed on to the pin. Try to use the minimum quantity of bait possible.
